Bill (French: Van Damme) is a cook who served aboard the Aurora in The Shooting Star and the Sirius in Red Rackham's Treasure.

Bill as seen in the book series
During the Aurora Expedition in The Shooting Star, Bill served as the cook aboard the expedition's ship of the same name, making various meals for the crew to enjoy. He often had trouble with Snowy due to the mischievous dog stealing some of his food behind his back, but this was a consequence of him usually forgetting to close the door to his kitchen onboard the ship.
Bill appeared once more in Red Rackham's Treasure, again serving as a cook but now on the Sirius, a trawler borrowed from Captain Chester as the source of transportation for the heroes' treasure hunt. He initially appeared in the story visiting a bar named "The Anchor", where he encountered his friend George having a drink. There, Bill explained to him about Red Rackham, his treasure, and how Haddock and Tintin were arranging the search for it. However, he decided to cut the conversation short when he noticed a journalist eavesdropping on the information he was giving out.
During the treasure hunt at sea, Bill accused Snowy on two occasions for stealing food from him, reporting his claims to Tintin and Haddock. However, these claims turned out to be false as it was later revealed that Professor Calculus was the one who was actually stealing Bill's food.
