Afghar is a military fort located in Morocco, likely operated by the French Foreign Legion and under the command of Lieutenant Delcourt that appears in The Crab with the Golden Claws.

Role in Book[]

The outpost was where Tintin, Snowy and Captain Haddock recuperated after escaping from the Karaboudjan and then later getting lost in the Sahara Desert. It is located a few days ride from the port city of Bagghar.

It was also where Tintin and Haddock had heard about the later revealed to be false sinking of the Karaboudjan via a radio news transmission.

Other Portrayals[]

In the 2011 motion-capture film The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, the outpost's role is largely the same as it was in the original story it appeared in that the film takes portions of its plot from, except it now plays a part in Captain Haddock's first reenactment of the battle between The UnicornandRed Rackham's pirate ship. The outpost's environment aids Haddock in accurately reciting what happened during the events of his ancestor's finest hour.

Trivia[]

  • In The Crab with the Golden Claws, only Moroccan soldiers and one French officer who looks near-identical to Lieutenant Delcourt are depicted as working for the outpost. However, in the 2011 film, Caucasian soldiers of the French Foreign Legion are also presented as working for the outpost.
